The Marble Restoration Company crew recently finished up what we consider a fairly standard marble restoration job.  The project was an Emperador and Crema Marfil Marble floor restoration.  The homeowner is a contractor and had installed his floor approximately 12 years prior to our service.

Lucky for us, the installation was seamless and the floor tiles were installed quite level to one another.  In natural stone restorations, a level floor makes a world of difference when removing damage from the tiles.  If a floor is not level, the team needs to begin by removing the lippage (unevenness) from the tiles prior to the restoration.  If the lippage is not removed, it is very difficult to get an even shine across the tiles as there are high points and low points on each tile that polish differently.

Because the Emperador and Crema Marfil marble floor had not been serviced since the initial installation, the floor required some pitting repairs as well as 4 different grits of diamonds to remove the etches and scratches and prepare the floor for polishing.  The pitting in the floor was repaired by mixing a 2-part epoxy and color-matching it to the veining in the marble.  Then the crew blended the repairs and removed the damage that was dulling the floors during the diamond honing process.  The marble floor was then polished to restore its natural shine, given a final cleaning to neutralize any remaining chemicals and then the team applied an impregnating sealer to protect the floor from future damage.  In the end, we had a very happy customer!

The pitting in the marble was repaired with a 2-part epoxy that was color-matched to appear like the natural veining in the marble.
